Dispensing Compliance

All retail-setting Illinois pharmacies dispensing Schedule II–V Controlled Substances and/or Drugs of Interest must submit data by the end of each business day.

All hospital or outpatient pharmacies dispensing more than 72 hours of Schedule II–V Controlled Substances and/or Drugs of Interest must submit data by the end of the business day.

All Dispensing Practitioners dispensing Schedule II–V Controlled Substances and/or Drugs of Interest must submit data by the end of each day.

Register for a RxSubmit Test account here to test the ASAP 5.0 transition.

No submissions should be made in ASAP 5.0 prior to successfully testing on the RxSubmit Testing website.

Current Drugs of Interest as of May 2025

  • All butalbital combination products
  • Gabapentin
  • Muscle Relaxants
  • Opioid Antagonists

Guides and Deadlines

Deadline to transition to ASAP 5.0: December 16, 2025

Zero Reports

Zero reports are to be submitted by a Pharmacy or Dispensing Practitioner for any day that no Schedule II–V Controlled Substances and/or Drugs of Interest are dispensed. Review Illinois Data Submitters Guide Version ASAP 5.0: Section 6.

Waiver/Exemption Request

If your Illinois licensed organization or practice never dispenses Schedule II–V Controlled Substances and/or Drugs of Interest to Illinois residents, please complete an Application Request for Waiver of Reporting Requirements for Illinois RxSubmit .

Waivers will expire on June 30th of the following year and must be completed annually if your organization continues to meet all waiver/exemption requirements.

Error/Warning Correction

Please see Section 2080.220 Error Reporting which states:

If a prescriber notices an error in their prescription information, they shall report it to the dispensing pharmacy within 7 days after discovery of the error.

A dispenser who notices an error in a prescription they have dispensed and transmitted shall retract the incorrect prescription and retransmit the prescription correctly within 7 days after discovery of the error.

Warnings are errors.
